Numerology Worked Example
A numerology chart, step by step.
Use a fictional person to understand the method before entering your own details. This lesson is about learning the calculations; these are not your personal results.
Meet the Fictional Example
Alex Morgan is an invented name used only for this lesson. The example birth date is August 11, 1990. Our Western method uses the full birth date for Life Path, all letters of the birth name for Expression, and the vowels for Soul Urge.
For this example, Y is not a vowel. Spaces are ignored, and letter values repeat from 1 to 9. We keep 11, 22, and 33 when reducing the chart numbers. Each category asks a different question, even when the same number appears more than once.
1 · Full birth date
Life Path 2: the Learning Theme
Reduce the month, day, and year separately. August is 8. The 11th stays 11 because this method retains master numbers. The year is 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → 10 → 1.
8 + 11 + 1 = 20 → 2.
Life Path 2 explores cooperation and sensitivity. In a reading, this category asks what a person is learning through experience. A practical example is learning to listen carefully while also stating a preference of their own.
The number does not answer every question about a person. Its role in the chart is to offer a theme for reflection, rather than replace someone’s own experience.
2 · Every letter of the name
Expression 11: Abilities to Develop
Convert the letters in Alex Morgan using the Western A–Z map:
Alex: A 1 + L 3 + E 5 + X 6 = 15.
Morgan: M 4 + O 6 + R 9 + G 7 + A 1 + N 5 = 32.
15 + 32 = 47 → 4 + 7 = 11. Keep 11 as a master number; its related base theme is 2.
Expression 11 explores sensitivity and inspiration as abilities to develop. Where Life Path asks what someone learns through, Expression asks how they can contribute. One practice is turning an intuitive idea into a clear explanation another person can use.
3 · Vowels in the name
Soul Urge 4: an Inner Need
The vowels in Alex Morgan are A, E, O, and A. Their values are 1, 5, 6, and 1.
1 + 5 + 6 + 1 = 13 → 4.
Soul Urge 4 explores a need for stability, reliability, and practical order. This category asks what feels fulfilling within. In everyday life, a dependable routine or a clear agreement may give that need a useful form.
Read the Three Roles Together
In this fictional chart, Life Path 2 suggests learning through cooperation, Expression 11 suggests developing sensitive and inspiring contributions, and Soul Urge 4 suggests making room for steadiness. These are three different lenses; they do not cancel each other out.
A learning exercise: imagine a shared project. How might Alex listen and speak clearly, express an idea in a useful way, and create a manageable routine? Name one action for each category before combining them into a plan.
A Date-Based Cycle Example
Using the same fictional birth month and day, consider October 19, 2026. Personal cycles use single digits from 1–9, rather than retaining master numbers.
Personal Year: 8 + 11 + (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 → 1) = 20 → 2.
Personal Month: Year 2 + October 10 = 12 → 3.
Personal Day: Month 3 + day 19 = 22 → 4.
The Year gives a wider theme, the Month a focus within it, and the Day a practical point of attention. A different date changes the cycle numbers; it does not change the example’s core chart.
